Ganapathy as Thinker 2.jpg

A bit more about the Pensive Muse...

Dr. Ganapathy Mahalingam is a Professor of Architecture at North Dakota State University in the United States of America. He is a person with diverse interests that range from philosophy, architectural design, computational modeling, Poetry, Music and Art, to culinary delights and travel. He has that strong curiosity to learn about the world around him, and to wonder about all the things that remain to be discovered and done.

Dr. Mahalingam is a philosopher-poet, and a prolific author whose work moves freely across the disciplines that the modern academy is too often content to keep apart. His interests range from deep philosophy and computational modeling to the digital creation of AI-assisted art, music, and fashion; from the design of computational tools for the design professions to interdisciplinary inquiry and religious thought. In each of these domains he pursues a single underlying question — how form, meaning, and consciousness are related — and he pursues it with the conviction that the rigor of the analyst and the vision of the poet are not rivals but partners.

Writing under the imprint of Pensive Muse Books, he has produced a series of philosophical works that read the perennial questions of consciousness and selfhood through the lens of the Indian contemplative traditions, among them The Triadic Ontology of Consciousness and The Vedic Ascension: An Alternate Reading of the Mahāvākyas. His scholarship is marked by a distinctive method: the patient development of a topic through a chain of questions, each opening the next, drawn from diverse and canonical sources and resolved in conclusions that are balanced rather than partisan. His prose is at once exacting and lyrical, and it consistently seeks the educative value of every inquiry it undertakes. Check out his books below!
